Bude-Stratton Town Council addressed its commitment to the subject of climate change at their full council meeting on March 7.

A member of the public asked the council what steps Bude was taking after Cornwall Council declared the issued of climate change to be an emergency.

Bude’s mayor, Cllr Bob Willingham replied: “We’re doing a lot.”

Cllr Simon Browning said: “I will be attending a ‘Climate Change and Neighbourhood Planning’ conference this weekend and I am currently drafting an environment policy for Bude and Stratton Town Council at the moment.”

Cllr Julia Bryson spoke regarding the work the planning committee is doing within its own parameters including the Bude Green five being incorporated in BSTC planning consultations (rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling be incorporated, PV generation with diverter linked to an electric car charging point be incorporated, local sustainable building materials be used where possible, any hard standing to be of permeable material, renewable source of heating ie: ground source heat pump be used), and with regard to the Neighbourhood Plan review.

She said: “We will have all the information, and be upfront about it, we will ask the public once it has been drafted. We will then consult the public before sending it on to Conrwall Council.”

The enquiring member of the public was content with the response the council provided for her question.
