THERE was plenty of squawks, squeaks, clucks and other unusual sounds echoing from the poultry tent.

With entries increasing for 2019, secretary of the poultry tent, Jen Summers, was delighted with the turnout.

She said: “It’s been good. We’ve had more entries than we had last year and lots of new exhibitors. The rare breeds class was the best, with the most entries.”

Shining in the poultry tent this year were youngsters Izabelle Page and Leo Crowhurst, from Camelford. Izabelle, with her bottled peaking hen Priscilla, won first prize while Leo won best children’s pet with his guinea pig. The pair said: “It’s been a really good show!”

Also successful was Ashleigh Babb from Helstone with her seabright cockerel, picking up a first.

She said: “This is my first one (show), I’ve never done anything with chickens before so I’m really chuffed.

“We come every year — you’ve got to come to the local one, everyone’s here and it’s a really good day out!”
