THE heritage of Bude and Stratton was celebrated with music, food, dance, art and history at the weekend. Bude Castle was surrounded by fun and entertainment, a fitting way to celebrate the town's history, of which Sir Goldsworthy Gurney played a major part in 1830. Sir Goldsworthy's legacy lives on in the form of Bude Castle and Bude Light, which he designed and built in the 1830s. Bude Light was an oil lamp, which is remembered by the 'Bude Light' a commemoration sculpture installed for the millenium year. The life of Sir Goldsworthy was told through a display board in the Parkhouse Centre. Hundreds of people visited the grounds to witness brass bands and community choirs, along with performers from the Big Up Bude talent show. METRIC brass band members showed off their new blazers at Bude Heritage Day on Sunday. Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Bude, Nigel Pearce presented Bude Metric Brass with £300 from his community chest grant. Members were able to buy new blazers to replace ill-fitting band jackets, which were worn for the first time during their performance on the weekend. Picture: Paul Hamlyn
