Launceston Memory Café was alive with the sound of bagpipes on Saturday. Colin Carvel, a regular volunteer at the café, dressed in appropriate attire to celebrate a Burns afternoon with members. Cym Downing, chairman, carried the haggis as it was piped in as part of worldwide events to commemorate Scotland’s 18th century poet Robert Burns.

Earlier in the month, on January 9, the café held an afternoon which featured musical bingo.

The café welcomes anyone living with memory problems and their carers. Further information on the café, which meets on alternate Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm at the hall, Central Methodist Church, can be found at www.memorycafelaunceston.org.uk

• There were also Burns Night celebrations at Trethorne Golf Club and a real Scottish flavour to celebrations in Callington.
