A TOP of the town cream tea event was held in Bude on Friday, June 10. The event, held in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday, was a roaring success.
The rain stopped at 10.20am, just in time for the event to start, and it remained dry until 4pm when the heavens opened.
Over 240 cream teas were served, and the event was well supported.
Tables were placed outside a number of businesses at the top end of the town and thanks have been extended to the following shopkeepers for their help — Dolly Rockers, Furniture Re-designed, Mary Rolands Hairdressing, Clip Joint, Kittywakes, Lily’s Emporium, Morwenna Café and Salon Y2K.
Bude Metric Brass played throughout, providing some great music to those in attendance.
Jam, cream and scones were donated by Sainsburys, Rob French from The Bakery also donated some scones. The Falcon Hotel provided the tablecloths, the golf club donated the tables, Steve Cowling from Courtenay Insurance provided the chairs.
Joan Balsdon gave the table decorations and the Bude branch of the Royal British Legion donated money to purchase some bunting and flags. Morwenna Café allowed the use of their facilities to prepare the refreshments, and Debbie Hatch helped with serving.
The event, which was not intended to be a fundraiser, did in fact raise £750, which will be donated to Bude charities.
Luke Francis, Bude General Post Office postmaster, who organised the event, said: “Massive thanks to the band and also so many people and businesses within the town that made it a success.
“So many people helped to make it work. It was a brilliant day.”
