THIS beautiful circular walk begins in the historic and picturesque harbour of Boscastle and climbs up Penally Hill providing spectacular views over the village and coast.

The route then follows the coast to Pentargon. There the small stream plummets as a 120ft waterfall from the cliff to the sea. NB the viewpoint is close to the edge of an unfenced cliff so exercise extreme care if you decide to have a look.

The path then continues along Beeny Cliff passing Fire Beacon Point, which is worth a stop for the wonderful coastal views (or if there is an optional easier route if you decide not to climb up to the point) and the Beeny Sisters, to the seal colony at Buckator.

Buckator is the largest seal colony on the north Cornish coast and numbers peak in the winter and early spring.

You can just about see the seals from the bench next to the coast path, overlooking the bay but the best view is from the top of the hedge behind the bench.

The return to Boscastle is along small lanes and through Peter’s Wood along the valley of the River Valency, which acted as a funnel for the dramatic flash flood of 2004, putting Boscastle on the map (nearly wiping it off in the process).

Arriving back in Boscastle there are three characterful pubs to choose from for some well-earned refreshment.

This is a perfect walk for spring with gorse in full flower around Pentargon and wild garlic and bluebells in the Valency valley.
