A WOMAN from Bude has raised over £2,000 to help her poorly relative after a sponsored head shave was held recently.

Emma Harris braved the shave recently to raise money for her cousin Kenny’s four-year-old daughter, Christina Thomas, to receive treatment for a mid-brain glioma in Mexico, as the Post previously reported.

The event, held at An Mor Hotel in Bude on Saturday, May 12, along with online fundraising, raised £2,178.49 towards the treatment fund.

Emma said: “I am so pleased with how the event went. I had a really good turnout and together we raised a great amount, which I hope can really help Christina towards recovery.

“I was very nervous the week leading up to the event, but as soon as I arrived at the venue, I just thought about what I was doing it for and knew it was all worthwhile.

“The new look is definitely different, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting — I might even keep it like this for a little while, it’s very easy to manage!”

She continued: “I have been truly overwhelmed by the amount of support I received and I have a lot of people to thank. Firstly, the team at An Mor for letting me use the function room and for working so hard on the night; all the amazing local businesses that donated prizes; everyone who came along and supported; everyone who donated and bought raffle tickets; and my family and friends, who helped me organise such a great event.”

Emma’s cousin, Kenny, father of Christina who lives in Norfolk with the family, has said: “I just want to say a big thank you to you from me, my wife and all the family for what you are doing for Christina. We also want to thank all of those people who have donated and helped in any way with your head-shaving event.

“Christina is currently very stable and we are providing her with the best treatments available in natruropathic medicine, which is proving to be of great benefit to her.

“The money you have raised will help us continue with this and also goes towards plans of taking her abroad for further treatment. We think you are very brave in doing this for her and possibly a touch mad too! It’s definitely the most radical fundraising thing done for her so far.

“Lastly, I would like to welcome you to the world of baldness, enjoy it while it lasts.”
