I WONDER if the natives of Cornwall realise how much they have been stitched up by the Wallies' desperate push for power. It is announced the new 'dictator' is to receive some £200,000 a year for his cosy seat — but that is not all — count extra a large lump towards his pension fund, the nice new office he will have, his new staff to run it, his nice large, new motor vehicle, plus the chauffeur and the guaranteed extras to run it. Then there will be the bill when he retires with a golden handshake.
Now, that is only for the chief. How about the rest of the unelected? Golden handshakes for those forced to retire at the change-over? More for the councillors who will have to go? And how about changes to staff? We still haven't got past the personnel concerned.
How about the 'new logo'. If it is to be implemented, it should be done properly — new paint on all vehicles, machinery, clothing, paper, new street signs to replace the old borough and district signs, the leisure centres, parks, play area signs etc. What new offices will be set up in each area of the county and at what expense?
Of course, in the middle of a 'credit crunch' with ever rising inflation, the idea is still to save money by having 'one council'. What a blatant misrepresentation.
I just hope the names of all those involved will be well recorded, and we will be reminded of those names come the next election — which will not be soon enough.
Keep smiling, Cornwall.
