DESPITE an initially bleak weather forecast a well-organised ‘Rio Olympic Games’ sports day produced many shining moments at Sir James Smith’s Community School, Camelford, last month.
Mist and drizzle cleared to ensure that all the students and staff could watch the final races on the school field in the afternoon, following a morning of well-contended events, such as softball, triple jump, rugby 7s and high jump.
Both indoor and outdoor facilities were used, while classrooms served as bases for impressive Olympic workshops, which ranged from ‘Rio Problem Solving’ to ‘Olympic World Music’ and ‘Olympic Sir Jim’s House Flag-making’ to a ‘Rio Stadium Build’.
Organiser Matt Dyson, subject leader for PE, thanked all those who had contributed to making the day such a ‘gold-medal winning success’.
Those students celebrating most at the end of the day were from Poldeme House, who beat rival Houses Landeme, Chydeme and Tredeme — the final result was announced after the relays had taken place on the school field.
