Launceston Library celebrated ‘Pyjamarama’ during their Friday morning ‘rhymetime’ on June 7, as part of a BookTrust campaign to get children across the country into their pyjamas for a special story time.

BookTrust worked with libraries nationwide to promote their campaign to give away a free copy of the picture book, ‘Car, Car, Truck, Jeep’ by Katrina Charman and Nick Sharratt, to ensure as many children as possible have their very own story to read before bed.

The library was visited earlier on in the week by Deborah Averill, Early Years facilitator for Cornwall’s library and information service, who explained to parents and library visitors that just reading for ten minutes a day with babies and young children can have an incredible effect on how ready they will be for school.

Deborah went on to say: “Reading with babies and young children not only introduces them to the joy of reading, it gives them a head-start in their language and literacy development and boosts their social and emotional wellbeing.

“It also gives parents an opportunity to connect and engage with their children at the end of the day.”
