LAUNCESTON Library has more than 450 children taking part in this year’s reading scheme — ‘The Big Friendly Read’.
This is a national challenge to encourage children to read at least six books over the summer break.
2016 marks a hundred years since the birth of Roald Dahl, and this year’s emphasis was on activities relating to some of his most popular books.
In a recent library art workshop children created a giant mural based on the story ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’. They were also able to make puppets to take home.
When the challenge closes, Tesco has arranged a ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ inspired biscuit decorating event from 10am to 12noon.
Events are free and for all ages to join in and have some fun while children complete their six book challenge. Parents can always check that younger ones have finished completely and their names are recorded as medals and certificates are handed out at school.
Launceston Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9.30am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm.
