STUDENTS from Cornwall and Devon have gained in-depth knowledge into major incident planning thanks to Launceston Fire Station.

Level 3 Military and Protective Services Academy students at Duchy College visited Launceston Fire Station as part of the collaboration in the uniformed services and major incident planning modules they are currently undertaking. 

The firefighters explained how the fire service deal with major incidents and thoroughly explained their day to day procedures.

Level 3 Military and Protective Services Academy student, Robbie Langton, said the trip was really interesting, especially ‘meeting one of the few tri-service personnel who explained his role.

“We learnt about the emergency planning chain of command and got to look around the emergency planning truck and see how all the equipment was used.”

Fellow Level 3 Military and Protective Services Academy student, George Howarth, agreed it was ‘brilliant looking around the fire station and using the hose’.

Team Lead for Military and Protective Services Academy at Duchy College, Neil Harris, said it is great to see ‘our students making the most of this opportunity to increase their knowledge of major incident planning’.
