After eating a full English at the Hartland Farmers' Market you can now wander out of the café and chat to the people who put it there. The renowned Farmers' Café at Hartland Farmers' Market has now completed an important change. All the ingredients that make their breakfasts are now sourced from market traders. You can talk to the pork and the poultry farmers, the smallholders and the

bakers who hand made the bread that made your toast. Market organiser, Rod Landman, said: "Half our stallholders come from within Hartland, and a

further 25 per cent are within a 15 mile radius. I am proud that our customers can now trace their breakfasts straight from the farmer to the plate. It's really important that people can make that link. You can enjoy your food all the more if you know the people who made it, and can talk to them about their amazing animal welfare standards, and the care that went into the food they produce." Hartland Farmers' Market opened its doors for the 2009 season in April, and boasts more stalls and more choice than ever. Ninety per cent of last year's stallholders have returned, and they have been joined by a clutch of new stalls. The markets run on the first Sunday of every month until October and are held at the Parish Hall in Hartland. The markets benefit a range of local charities.
