POLICE in Launceston are reassuring residents after an ‘isolated incident’ saw a pedestrian attempt to get into the back of a car while it was stationary.
On Tuesday, January 12, a man tried to get into a car in the town while it was at a junction.
PCSO Danielle Hill, who said a colleague tracked down the man after the incident, said: “The male was very drunk and had tried to get into the car thinking it was his sister coming to pick him up. His details were taken, he was given strong words of advice and was put in a taxi home to Bodmin.
“We would like to reassure members of the public that we do not believe there was anything sinister about this incident, and that it was a drunken mistake. It is very likely that this is an isolated incident and we have had no other reports of similar incidents occurring.
“From a security perspective we would always advise members of the public to keep their car doors locked, especially when stationary.”
