ANITA Morris of the Body and Sole Centre, Camelford took part in a 'Ladies' Driving Challenge' in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care on Sunday, September 5, raising £80 for the charity.
At a very wet RAF Portreath runway, Anita had the opportunity to not only drive a number of large industrial vehicles, but participate in challenges using them.
She said: "My stomach was a mix of nerves and excitement. Checking in at the large aircraft hangar, we were issued our colour zone stickers, grabbed a coffee and awaited our briefing. Then we were off on the mini buses to the designated zones, and despite the awful weather, the marshalls and instructors were joyful and patient.
"My first stop was at 10am, manoeuvring and reversing a truck and trailer into a coned square — well, less said the better — not really my forte!"
From there she got to drive a JCB around a circuit, followed by a double decker bus, a Westfields HGV and a combine harvester.
She was also given an opportunity to do some quick car skill driving, which required a different approach than to that of the larger vehicles.
At 1pm it was back to base for a much needed coffee and home for a hot shower and dry set of clothes!
She added: "It was a great day — thanks to all the people involved, to all my clients at the Body and Sole Centre, friends and family for sponsoring me in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care."
The event is held each year, for ladies any age — all that is required is a full driving licence.
