THE Newton St Petrock Male Voice Choir recently celebrated their 65th anniversary with a performance at Hatherleigh Methodist Church.

There was a double celebration at their recent concert, when they performed at Hatherleigh Methodist Church as they presented, well-known senior member of the choir, Les Gilbert with a decorated birthday cake, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

Andy Morley said: “The packed congregation were very supportive. Les also managed to blow out all the candles on his birthday cake in one breath, but there was a rumour that there weren’t as many candles on his cake as his actual age!”

The choir has performed throughout the North Devon area and hold practices at the Lake Chapel, Shebbear, on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm — new members welcome. No voice auditions are required, but anyone is welcome to go and see what a friendly bunch they are.
