BLISLAND village recently combined celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday and the re-opening of the Village Institute, and the village’s public toilet adjoining the Institute.

The event included a fun run, treasure hunt, the two opening ceremonies, Camelford Town Band performing, a bouncy castle, sweets and candy floss, a raffle, and refreshments.

The Village Institute had been closed for refurbishment, and Blisland Parish Council chairman Dominic Fairman said the public toilet adjoining the Institute had been in a ‘poor state of repair’.

He said of the Institute:?“After years of neglect and the damp getting in, that sort of thing, we closed it last year.

“The public toilets tacked on to the Institute were in a poor state of repair, and we had to close them.

“We asked the parish whether they would be happy for the precept to rise to do them up and maintain them.

“Everybody was happy. We had a village questionnaire and a high percentage were happy for the taxes to be put up to sort the problem out.”

The Institute and toilet were successfully re-opened on Sunday, June 12.
