BRADWORTHY's village hero, Dot Clarke, did the honours of turning this year's Christmas lights on.

She was invited to switch on the lights at the weekend, in recognition of the hard work she has contributed to the community.

Chairman of Bradworthy Parish Council, Margret Coles said: "Dot has quietly served this community for over 40 years."

Her services include washing the Bradworthy Football Clubs kit every week, and running the Wednesday Club, providing 16 less mobile residents with a day out and a hot meal each Wednesday.

Margret added: "I know that our community really appreciates all that Dot has done over the years and are pleased to ask her to switch on the lights."
