RESIDENTS of Camelford are being asked to recycle their old toothbrushes, oral care products and packaging at the town’s library.

All items need to be clean and dry, which will be recycled into plastic pellets.

Any of the following are accepted: any brand of toothpaste tubes and caps; any brand of toothbrushes, any brand of toothpaste cartons; any brand of toothbrush outer packaging; any brand of electric and battery toothbrush heads.

The council’s decision to get involved was due to the town council librarian, Bronwen Hockerday.

She said: “It came about as I signed up to the website Terracycle, which is a recycling company. They run several schemes such as toothpaste recycling and bread bags recycling etc etc, which is recycled into plastic pellets and then resold.

“Just from doing it myself I realised I could get a box put into the library so I applied and was successful and they sent it out for free. We’ve had the box for about a month, which is downstairs in the public area and people have been using it. We’re also working with the Camelford Plastic Free initiative and if it proves successful we’ll get another box in for something else.”
