THE Dunheved Masonic Lodge presented a cheque for £150 to the Launceston Hospital League of Friends, following their spring lunch at the Countryman Inn in April.
However that is just a snippet of the money they donate each year with over £2,000 raised last year going to non-Masonic charities, including the Launceston Memory Café, the second of master of the lodge Keith Taylor’s nominated causes for the year.
Mr Taylor said: “It was an excellent day out at the Countryman as usual, where we ate and talked with our friends and then we made the presentation.
“The money raised by the Masonic lodge comes from their member’s own pockets, and throughout the year we do lots of fundraisers such as race nights ladies days and lunches along with other simple money initiatives such as raffles when we meet up at the lodge.
“But as a charity we like to help out both the local community and other Masonic lodges by pledging as much as we can although it is entirely up to them what they use the money on.”
Their generosity doesn’t just extend to the PL15 postcode, as they recently headed down to Newquay to hand over a cheque to a girl who is heading out to Africa to help underprivileged children.
