A DOG owner from Holsworthy has warned others to be vigilant after their two dogs were treated for suspected ‘poisoning’.
Jo and Luke Head have praised the quick actions of their local Penbode Vets who they say ‘have been amazing’ and ultimately saved their pets’ lives.
Jo took Westie ‘Poppy’ and Daschund cross ‘Bluebelle’ for their usual evening walk on Tuesday, January 7, choosing a path from Glebe Meadow, onto Sanctuary Road, through Honey Meadow and Glebelands before returning home.
As Jo walked up the path to her house Bluebelle began to have a ‘seizure’ and Poppy became shaky. Jo acted quickly and took her beloved dogs to Penbode Vets were they were treated with care.
Jo said: “Bluebelle started to have the seizure first. Poppy became shaky and panting. Bluebelle was worse than Poppy.
“Bluebelle has some neurological imbalance but with rest and loads of TLC this will get better. Poppy has made a good recovery and just needs rest and TLC.”
Jo and Luke were full of praise for the team at Penbode: “My husband and I can’t thank Penbode enough, they are quick thinking, caring and so amazing each and every one of them at Holsworthy and Stratton. They kept us informed and calm at all time.
“They love and care for our girls just as much as we do. They really couldn’t of done any more. So from us all a huge, huge thank you.”
Since their ordeal Bluebelle and Poppy have returned home and are doing better.Jo added: “Our girls are our world, they are our fur babies. They are both home on the sofa curled up asleep where they belong safe at home.”
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were contacted by a dog owner in Holsworthy on January 8 with concerns that her two dogs had ingested poison on their walk in the Glebe Meadow and Honey Meadow areas.
“Both were treated by a vet for suspected poisoning.
“There is no other evidence or similar reports.
“Police would always recommend dog walkers remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to police.”
