DO YOU have any idea who might have worn this little sailor suit?

It has turned up in an unlabelled box in Lawrence House Museum’s costume collection and the museum has no information about when it might have been given to the museum or by whom.

It is entirely authentic, having been made by naval outfitters, C H Bernard & Sons Ltd, of Harwich according to the garment label.

Further research has shown that the company was incorporated in 1938 under that name and had branches in every naval port from Invergordon to Malta and beyond. It certainly had shops in Keyham, Devonport and Royal Parade, Plymouth.

So have you seen a photo of a grandad or dad as a child proudly wearing such a suit, perhaps in the company of a proud dad wearing an identical one?
