ORGANISERS of CATS (Community Action Through Sport) are urging people to put forward the names of young people who they believe should be recognised for their positive contribution in the past year.

For the last nine years CATS — a nationally recognised charity which started in Bude — has an awards evening in the spring at the Parkhouse Centre, in Bude.

Well over 1,000 young people from Bude and the surrounding villages have been publicly thanked for what they have volunteered to do for others.

Young people have been nominated for a variety of volunteer work, from teaching and coaching younger children, to helping the older generation with computers.

Many have also been nominated for helping with social events, rescuing people from beaches, cleaning, decorating or gardening in the community and helping in various local groups.

A CATS spokesperson said: "The list is endless, and no doubt there will be plenty more surprises this year."

Anyone can nominate a child or young person, aged five to 19. Forms can be downloaded from http://www.communityactionthroughsport.org">www.communityactionthroughsport.org or from the CATS Office in Lansdown Road, Bude.

Nomination forms must be returned, either to the CATS Office, or to Mrs S Marshall, Budehaven Community School, Valley Road, Bude EX23 8DQ no later than Friday, March 22. The awards evening will take place on Tuesday, April 23.
