CONCERNS have been raised that a district councillor is not fulfilling his role by failing to attend council meetings and feed back relevant information.
Holsworthy Town Council has been liaising with Torridge District Council with regards to the absence of Cllr Michael Footitt, who is believed to be out of the country on indefinite leave.
At the town council's latest meeting (January 2), councillors discussed how long a district councillor could be absent before his role would be reviewed.
Under s.85 Local Government Act 1972, it states: 'A councillor who is absent from all meetings of the council and any committees of which they are a member for a period of six months automatically ceases to be a member of the council unless they have been given leave of absence by the council before the expiry of that six month period'.
