RESIDENTS in Bude have expressed disappointment after litter was left behind in the town following a visit from a travelling circus.
‘The Amazing Circus Funtastic’, which was located at Bude Rugby Club at Bencoolen Meadow from June 19 to 24, would have been a thrill for many — however many residents, local environmental groups and members of the town council have expressed disappointment on social media after litter was left in various places around Bude, including numerous advertising flyers left in the windscreens of vehicles and stuck on a number of locations.
There were also noise complaints from residents who live near the rugby club.
With many environmental action groups and projects taking place in Bude, the littering has been described as ‘deeply distressing’.
Since the circus left Bude on Sunday, June 24, Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Bude, Peter La Broy, has sent an email to Cornwall Council to find out if those responsible could be held accountable for the litter created, and tidy the town up.
The message reads: “Bude has recently had a visit from a travelling circus. Complaints have come forward from residents, the mayor and town councillors and also local rubbish action groups; the overwhelming flyering of cars (I personally had three), the flyering around town.
“The circus has left town, but the stickered flyers are left behind in a number of locations. There are so many people in Bude now caring for our environment, to see this amount of disruption caused by one small group is deeply distressing. Is there any enforcement that we can perform please? Can Cornwall Council contact the circus and ask them to come back and tidy up?”
