THE Holsworthy in Bloom competiton saw some beautiful entries this year, with the winners being chosen on Monday, July 4, during St Peter’s Fair Week.

The Holsworthy in Bloom 2016 results are as follows: 1st prize for the Best Residential Garden went to Ms M Hibbard of Wesley Road, Holsworthy. She received a £50 garden centre gift and certificate.

2nd prize for the Best Residential Garden went to Mrs J Punter of Whimble Hill, Holsworthy. She received a £25 garden centre gift and certificate.

Joint Best Hanging Basket winners, who received £25 each, were the White Hart Public House and The Old Market Inn.

Best Overall Commercial certificate was awarded to the Kings Arms Public House.

A certificate was also presented for Outstanding Large Garden Ms J Higgs.

These results were judged by mayor Jon Hutchings, Holsworthy Town Council handyman/gardener George Orr-Wilcox and Carol Houghton from Brooks Wyevale Garden Centre.

A spokesperson said: “This was a very hard decision for 2016 as each garden and business were all wonderful in many different ways.

“Holsworthy Town Council would like to thank all the people that entered, as well as people that hadn’t entered — yet still took time to place flowers outside the business/shops in Holsworthy, which had made the Square look colourful and inviting.

“We also would like to say a big thank you to Carol Houghton from Wyevale Brooks Garden Centre, Stratton, for taking time to come to Holsworthy and judge Holsworthy in Bloom 2016.

“Without her knowledge and expertise we may of still been trying to figure out who was the best!”
