JUDGES at Hartland Carnival confessed to a difficult job this year, with 23 float entries all at a high standard.
Though many had to walk away without a prize, judges agreed the winner of this year's blue ribbon for the best tableau in the show was Mary Poppins, by the Allin family and friends, who also won best children's tableau entry.
Brian Redwood, of Hartland, said: "They wowed and entertained us with a flying Mary Poppins and Bert chimney sweep and life like smoking chimneys. They took home the Jamie Johns Memorial Cup for most entertaining and best local tableau as well."
Afro Circus, by Deptford Farm and friends, took home first prize in the entertainment category with their humorous dance routine and rainbow afros.
