The committee, headed by Jools Trotter — Ivyleaf Combe Lodges holiday park owner, Danielle Beetles — landlady at The Preston Gate Inn, Sarah Penny — Four Seasons Florist, and Tom Dawe — owner of Rosie’s Kitchen, was set up in January with the aim to get Bude looking festive and bright for December 2016 after what was a fairly dull Christmas period around the town last year as far as lights and decorations were concerned.
The group are currently running a competition that would see one lucky winner’s name up in lights as their logo design gets turned into a big, glittering Christmas light — with a named plaque hanging from it — as well as being printed on t-shirts and posters.
The Light Up Bude group want as many people as possible, of any age, to submit their logo design entries by the end of next month and really get the festive feeling started early this year.
The only requirement for the logo is that it should incorporate the words ‘Light Up Bude’ and designs can either be a simple drawing or a prototype of the light — however, group members have asked entrants to remember they will be having to turn one of the designs into an actual Christmas light!
The closing date for the competition is Saturday, April 30, and entries can either be sent to [email protected], facebook.com/lightupbude or dropped off at The Preston Gate or Ivyleaf Coombe Lodges.
With the hope of this year being the best Christmas ever in Bude, the group has already come up with a number of ideas to make sure it is, including three late night shopping dates in December, with a large Santa’s Grotto for all of those days with snow machine, an undercover ice-skating event, as well as plans to host Bude’s Christmas party, wherein they hope to have a marquee and an outside bar with local bands playing — three are already declaring their interest.
During the day of the Christmas party they plan to have the marquee open for children with entertainment and the evening for adults.
