DEPUTY leader of Cornwall Council Adam Paynter spent a couple of hours in Bude recently discussing climate change.
Cllr Paynter, who is also the Cornwall Councillor for Launceston North and North Petherwin, was stationed at The Triangle and spoke to residents as they came past.
Cllr Paynter said: “We had a number of good responses and everybody we spoke to had an opinion. The majority were concerned about it. The council need to take a lead and show leadership on the issue.
“One gentleman thought the issue had gone too far and that it was too late to do anything due to the works going on in India and China. He felt we wouldn’t be able to make a difference but I disagreed with him.
“Scientists say we can make a difference, we all need to act and reduce the amount of Co2 we’re putting into the atmosphere.”
Cllr Paynter was also delighted with the response from some of the Bude-Stratton Town Councillors.
He said: “Cornwall Councillor Peter La Broy was there during the day along with some of the town councillors also visiting.”
Cllr Paynter believes these sort of events are important.
He said: “Whilst I live in the community between Launceston and Bude, I always enjoy getting out and speaking to people because you always have the topic you want to talk about but you always pick up lots of other things about the community as well.”
