Otterham School Council recently achieved their Bronze and Silver Promoting Active Democracy Loudly (PADL) Award. The officers of the council, Chairperson Holly-Anne Drowne, Vice Chair Tom Davey, Secretary Lee Mitchell and Treasurer Cerys Callcut, together with teacher Mrs Liesl Rosewall, who runs the School Council, attended a presentation at New County Hall, Truro on Monday, November 17 to receive the award. They had a great time and particularly enjoyed the buffet lunch! Holly-Anne Drowne and Tom Davey explained the role of their School Council: "We have a School Council with 16 children, two from each year group. We have a set of officers that have different jobs. We listen to the children in the school and feed back to staff and parents about issues and comments they have. We also raise money to improve the school, eg we have got soap dispensers and paint for the toilets, we have introduced water bottles as part of becoming a healthy school, and bought various items for the PE department, including a new school PE kit. Recently we have gone through the Bronze and Silver PADL (Promoting Active Democracy Loudly) awards and achieved both. We had to go to Truro County Hall to receive our award, which we are very proud of."
