ENGLISH Heritage is planning to fly the St Piran's flag as well as its own banner simultaneously at Launceston Castle from the end of next month.

Writing on her Facebook page, the Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Launceston South, Jade Farrington, said she had written to the chief executive of the organisation 'to find out why they so rarely fly the St Piran's flag from the top of Launceston Castle and to ask them to start doing so'.

She wrote: "I'm pleased he has replied to indicate that they will be flying the St Piran's flags and English Heritage flags alongside one another when the castle re-opens at the end of March."

Cllr Farrington included a copy of the reply she had received from Simon Thurley, in which he said it is the organisation's policy to fly the English Heritage flag where there is a flagpole in place.

He wrote: "As you are aware, on March 5 we fly the St Piran's flag at Launceston Castle to celebrate this annual event.

"After various meetings, initiated by colleagues in the West Territory, with cultural and historical organisations in Cornwall, the decision has been taken to fly both the English Heritage and St Piran's flags simultaneously every day where possible, ie, where the flagpole can support two. Launceston Castle is one such property and we plan to do so from the end of March when we re-open for the new season.

"We will continue to fly the St Piran's flag exclusively on March 5 and the site team will be happy to discuss other days when you think this may be appropriate."
