LAUNCESTON Choral Society's performance of Haydn's great oratorio 'The Creation' last Saturday proved a delightful and exciting experience for the audience.
As well as the stirring, better known choruses, the audience heard some beautiful arias, duets and trios by the soloists and to appreciate Haydn's ability to depict in music among other things, the chaos before creation, the making of the sea and land and the musical jokes of the 'cheerful tawny lion' roaring and 'flexible tiger' springing into life.
The choir and soloists, Kate Walker (soprano), Gordon Pike (tenor) and Ian Hardy (baritone), thrillingly and sensitively accompanied by David Crocker on the organ brought this optimistic and dynamic work to life.
