IT was music to her ears when Elsie Crane, aged nine, the youngest member of Launceston Town Band, achieved a distinction in her grade 3 Trinity exam.

Musical director and teacher at Launceston Town Band Ann Brown was pleased to announce that her youngest player had achieved such a strong result.

Elsie approached the exam with confidence and a view that Ann has never had a student gain less than a pass.

Upon hearing the results, Elsie’s father Stephen remarked: “Music has such a beneficial academic and social effect on young minds and she really enjoys the responsibility of playing repiano cornet in the junior and senior bands. There can’t be many activities that respectfully incorporate such a wide age range on an equal footing.”

Launceston Town Band will be encouraging new recruits from September, people are welcome to join an activity that has the backing of the town’s mayor and which promotes and benefits the community.
