LAST Sunday morning saw Delabole Methodist Church full to capacity with about 170 people attending a special Camelford and Tintagel Methodist Circuit Service with special guest preacher, Rev Steve Wild, the new Chair of the Cornwall Methodist District.
A coach had picked up the congregation from as far as Crackington Haven and other people on route to Delabole, with mini buses bringing people from Camelford and St Breward, and many more travelling by car.
This is the first time this had been done in the Circuit, and allowed people from small churches to come together and worship as a whole. The music was led by the organ, piano and an ensemble of other musical instruments. New and old hymns were sung, with much enthusiasm.
During the service, a number of people were presented with their Worship Leaders Certificates. These were Judith Bennett, Barbara Tyson, Mary Scarrett, David Sanders, Margaret Mabson, David Scarrett and Tony Ham.
Steve spoke to the children using them and a number of soft toy animals to tell the story, which the adults enjoyed as much as the children.
He used a power point presentation to point out to the rest of the congregation how Methodism was changing throughout the country, finding new ways to engage with people who were non church goers, using the Tube Station in Polzeath as one example.
He talked about the Bible reading which had been read, and enthused about the exciting times ahead that are promised, no 1950s revival, but a new and exciting way of being 'church' in this modern world we live in.
All in all, everyone thought it had been a splendid time of real worship, and really good to come together. Coffee and tea was served afterwards, with many staying to chat to friends they hadn't seen for a while. It had been a wonderful morning.
