On Saturday, September 12, action woman Joan Tiney from Delabole stepped out of an aircraft at 10,000 feet over Perranporth Airfield to make a parachute jump for her favourite charity, The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. The jump was a tandem jump made with Mr Ben Wood of the Cornish Parachute Club. They fell freefall for about 15 seconds before deploying the parachute and then glided back to earth making a gentle landing several minutes later. She was greeted by her husband, Derek, and members of the RBL and friends, who all congratulated her on her magnificent achievement. Joan said that it was an adrenalin rush during the freefall but a magnificent feeling slowly coming down in the quietness. Her friends all heard her whoops of enjoyment and saw her ecstatic waves as she neared the landing zone. Afterwards she thanked Ben for his kind and gentle assistance and said that she would like to thank all that helped her raise in excess of £600 for the Poppy Appeal.

SHE DID IT: Joan is pictured above with Ben after the jump.
