MATTHEW Carter, a Year 9 pupil at Sir James Smith's Community School, Camelford, and his faithful sheepdog are gathering in national plaudits.

Matthew, aged 13 from Delabole, and his dog Lynwood Blue (usually just known as Blue) were selected to represent England at a televised 'One Man and His Dog' competition for young people.

Matthew travelled up with his family and Blue to Balmoral in Scotland to compete as a Young Handler against teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, with the results of his excellent endeavours televised on BBC 2 starting last Saturday.

Matthew, who follows in the footsteps of his farming grandfather John Carter of Delabole, has already gained a glowing reputation nationally.
