IT HAS been a great start to Delabole Carnival Week.

Fine weather aided the erection of the marquee in the playing fields and on Saturday over 300 people turned out for the prize bingo.

Sunday began with the United Service, which was led by the Rev Bryan Ede along with much help from the Methodist and St John’s Church members. Around 80 people attended the service.

This was then followed by the crowning of this year’s royalty — Emily Carnon as carnival queen and Amber Smith the fairy queen.

They were crowned by outgoing royalty for 2015 Maisie Goodman.

Also on Sunday, Coz the Clown entertained the children, and many of the adults also joined in!

Throughout the week, scarecrows have been popping up around the village.

On Monday evening, a display from Fast Forward Dance company was followed by a huge crowd watching Britain’s Got Talent finalist Josh Curnow.

Carnival regular, comedian Johnny Cowling took to the stage on Tuesday evening.

All events led up to the grand carnival procession on Saturday evening.

Wendy Odd, carnival secretary said: “I am delighted with such a good start to the week and was looking forward to the many other events leading up to the carnival on Saturday.”

Pictures and results can be found in next week’s Post.
