DELABOLE was awash with colour on Saturday as people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the many floats and walking entries in the village's 10th carnival.

The procession was the cumulation of a week of carnival events and activities.

The carnival week kicked off with a 10th birthday party with family games, a car boot, cream teas and live music; a six-a-side football match; hypnotist; coffee morning; fashion show; entertainment from Johnny Cowling and Jack Glanville; pasty and sweet lunch; bingo and beer festival.

On Saturday the weather cleared up for the crowning of the Delabole Carnival Royalty groups, the Queen of Queens competition and the carnival procession.

Many spectators said it seemed to be one of the biggest carnivals Delabole has had in some years.

The time and effort that went into the costumes and floats was clear to see, and as the procession made its way through the village, the entrants were greeted with much applause.

The whole carnival week has been deemed a success with around 500 people cramming into the carnival marquee to see Johnny Cowling and around 300 to see Jack Glanville.

The walking entries were up on last year and now the committee can sit back and have a well earned rest before they get to work on next year's event.
