A DEAD tree, situated in Churchfield car park in Camelford, is due to be taken down in the next few weeks.
The meeting of Camelford Town Council heard on Tuesday, July 18 that the dead tree in Churchfield car park will be ‘taken down in the next few weeks’, as explained by town clerk, Esther Greig, in her report.
However, mayor Cllr Rob Rotchell, who was chairing the meeting, expressed concern at the thought of nothing being planted in the tree’s place, and thinks a new sapling would enhance the town’s environment.
He said: “There’s already issues about the fumes in the car park, so we need as much green space as possible. I hate to see trees cut down to be honest, so I think we should have a look to see if there’s room to place a six to eight foot sapling in its place.”
Councillors agreed that they would draw up a plan for this, and look into planting a sapling in the current tree’s place sometime in the near future.
