THE Davidstow Village Hall Committee is appealing to the community to come up with ideas and suggestions regarding a future village hall facility for the parish.
The old village hall was originally built as a gym and chapel for the Air Force personnel of Davidstow Airfield and, when no longer needed for that purpose, was bought by a local family and eventually made available, at an affordable cost, to the people of the parish.
After many years of hard use the hall had become unmanageable due to its size and deteriorating condition and in February of this year, via public consultation, it was decided that the existing hall should be disposed of and was sold at public auction.
The committee is now looking for a way forward to fulfil the purpose of the charity which is to provide a village hall facility for the community. With limited funds available options are being sought as to the best way to provide the facility.
In the past, various communities have benefited from the donation of land or buildings via the generosity of local residents or land owners and the committee is keen to hear from anyone with land or buildings that may be available either as a donation to the community or at a price affordable by the Davidstow Village Hall Charity.
The committee is now inviting the public to come up with ideas as to how the residents of Davidstow and surrounding neighbourhoods can be provided with a centre to host events, act as a meeting place for local groups and organisations and become a focal point where people can gather and socialise.
Once suggestions have been received and assessed, the results will be presented at an Extraordinary General Meeting where the residents of Davidstow will be invited to comment on each of the options and ultimately vote for the best way forward.
Anyone who feels they have something to offer to help this cause should contact the committee on 01840 261556. Alternatively, anyone is welcome to attend any of the village hall meetings which are open to the public.
Full details including dates of forthcoming meetings, current progress etc, can be found on the Davidstow website: http://www.davidstowparish.co.uk/villagehall">www.davidstowparish.co.uk/villagehall or by contacting the committee.
