This year's Turkey Trot at Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club made it with fabulous spring type weather, writes Barry Sykes.

Numbers were down on last year which was initially postponed due to severe weather and re-run the following February. Another factor could have been the weekly weather forecast which was not good. So, the fair-weather golfers stayed at home and missed out a great morning's golf.

Playing a four ball better off full handicap the draw was done on a high/low handicap drawn pairs, with the cut at 12.9 some of the pairings were to say the least firm favourites for the odd turkey.

Star pairing for the day were Dave (Mega) Ward and Laurence (Mr Dependable) Voysey. They returned a huge 50 points with 26pts on the front and 24 on the back, the card was 'ruined' with only one point on the 2nd and 15th.

Runners-up and having a dream draw as they are regular partners in the Carriers Golf Society were Pinger Robinson and Nick Wilce with 48pts – 23 out and 25 back.

Turkeys went down to 10th place and only one team on 42pts made it via a back 9, 6, and 3 count back. Best triers for the day were Dean Ryland and Arthur Haden who was playing in his first Club competition; they both went home with a large breast of Turkey.

A hole in one was registered on the day but unfortunately the ball went into the wrong hole. Three balls were spotted around the 8th green and after a search the ball was spotted ten yards off course. Graham Barker holed out on the temporary winter green.

50 Dave Ward & Laurence Voysey; 48 Pinger Robinson & Nick Wilce; 46 Shaun Marshall & John Manktelow; 46 Mike Hudson & Chunky Philp; 45 Glen Haydon & Martin Mullard; 43 Steve Smith & Paul Maynard; 43 Martin Bell & Kelvin Edwards.

At the presentation Club Captain Steve Bartrop thanked all for playing and wished everyone a Happy Christmas and successful golfing 2009.
