ALTHOUGH conditions generally have not been ideal several competitions have been played at Holsworthy Golf Club particularly the Turkey Trot with the birds having been readied for the oven much to the delight of John Masters and Dave Wilcox whose 49 points better ball total had them gobbling up the opposition well ahead of second placed Gary Harris and Shaun Gifford 43pts with Alan Abrams and Gary Chard and Ray Holness and Tony Northcott in third and fourth place respectively each having 41pts.

Ian Thomas with a commendable 40pts topped the winners' list in the Pro's Sweep with Phil Heal 37pts, Matt Ford also 37pts and Ryan Acres 35pts coming into the prizes.

Phil Heal went one better in the Monthly Medal, his nett 69 edging out Shamus Martin second nett 70 with the trio of Jeremy Horwood. Bob Gladwell and Kevin Napper each having nett 71 being well up the leader board.

The Boxing Day Bonanza, organised by veterans captain Tony Tomassi and his crew, went off extremely well with no one reporting a hangover with all 72 competitors ready and waiting for the 9am shotgun start

Obviously Ely Walmsley, Jim Bearham and Ken McGeorge were all fired up so much so their sights were set and their drives rifled the fairways to ensure them winning with a very good 87pts with Norman Dunham, club captain Trevor Watters and Peter Jolliffe 84pts second and Gary Chard, Brian Gliddon and Tony Northcott 80pts third. Following the competition the players thoroughly enjoyed a buffet provided by the veterans aided and abetted by Jo and Caroline.

The Ladies were able to able to play their Daily Mail Foursomes competition.

Although it was difficult for the long hitters whose drives disappeared into the prevailing fog, and the overnight rain didn't help matters either, nevertheless they stuck to their task none more so than Margaret Slinger and Pauline Bezzant their 29pts taking the honours ahead of lady captain Yvonne Bowler and Hilary Dorren 28pts the back nine deciding the issue with Ely Walmsley and Betty Byrne also 28pts third just beating the fourth place pair Carol Skyrzczak and Sue Griffiths 27pts.
