WHEN her mother was unable to take on her fundraising challenge, Caitlin Bosley from Camelford stepped in to get the ball rolling with a sponsored haircut.

Diane Bosley had been planning to take on Ten Tors this year, to raise money for the neurology department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. However, 12 months ago Diane was diagnosed with a large brain tumour. She said she was lucky it was benign but although her recovery was going well she hadn’t felt she was quite ready to take on a challenge as tough as Ten Tors just yet.

She said: “I am so proud of Caitlin for what she did, she has raised a fantastic amount in such a short time! We were due for a monthly haircut and Caitlin likes her hair long so I was quite surprised when out of the blue she said ‘I want a bob’. I asked if she was sure and she said she was and that she wanted to do it for charity.”

Diane said Caitlin had ‘a little wobble’ before the hair cut but said she is very pleased she went through with it and is now adjusting to her new bob haircut, which ‘really suits her’.

Caitlin raised over £1,000 for the neurology unit at Derriford, which Diane said she is ‘truly grateful for’. She added: “Caitlin got her sponsorship in two days and donated her cut hair to the Princess Trust. It was fantastic how generous people were — I have to say a special thanks to all those who donated, it meant a lot to us both!”

Diane said she was disappointed she couldn’t compete in Ten Tors this year but is more determined than ever that she will be able to take on the challenge next year. She said: “I hoped to do Ten Tors but when it got nearer the time I didn’t feel I would be able to finish all the tors and I always think if you are going to do something for charity you have to finish it!

“It has taken me 12 months to recover and I am now phasing back slowly to work. I work at a school and they have been brilliant and really supportive throughout this whole process. But now I am getting fitter and feel much better and will definitely do Ten Tors next year though!”
