FOLLOWING a second meeting of the Launceston Carnival Group last Friday evening, the return of the once popular event is now official.

Following the election of a committee, it was decided that the Carnival will be held on Saturday October 9, and the route will follow the traditional route, from Newport Industrial Estate, proceeding up St Thomas Road into Dockacre Road, into Exeter Street and through to the Square, finishing at the Guildhall.

Lisa Ford (Publicity Officer) said, "We are all feeling very positive that this will be a successful Carnival, it up to us now to put things together and organise a special event that the town will enjoy".

"What we want now is for people of Launceston to truly get behind the event, with groups, businesses and individuals alike to organise floats and other entries to make it a success".

The committee will be very busy over the coming months with all matters relating to the Carnival, which will include the search for a Carnival Queen and Fairy Queen.

A further volunteer meeting will be held at a later date for those that attended the first public meeting and would like to get involved in being Marshals, Stewards or Judges.
