WHAT started off as a wet and windy Wednesday night in December, ended with dancing in the aisles and plenty of smiles as Johnny Cowling did a fantastic job of entertaining the crowd at North Petherwin Church on the 13th.

The concert raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, which meant that it was a huge success for the second year running.

The audience danced, sang and ate delicious pasties for supper, which helped to fuel an interesting rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ with Johnny as the lead. He was also accompanied by local backing group Val Robinson, Liz Hicks and Sue Uglow, better known as ‘Little Minx’. The ladies were fantastic sports, as were other members of the audience such as the affectionately named ‘Mr and Mrs Claus’.

The event was organised by Maureen Ryder-Gordon who once more put in an astounding amount of work, as did her husband. Special thanks also go to the other members of the Launceston and District Cancer Research Committee and friends, as well as everyone who worked so hard on the door, the bar, the raffle table and to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes.

The committee was very pleased to donate more than £9,000 to Cancer Research UK and once more thanks everyone who helped or donated throughout the year.

The committee is now busy planning exciting events for 2018.
