FIFTEEN boys from Jason Thomas Performing Arts (JTPA) in Bude were chosen by the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) to be the core dancers of the Project B performances at King’s Cross in London.
The RAD have set a challenge for boys and men all over the world to be part of Project B, which aims to widen access to dance for boys and men and to encourage boys to take up ballet. The King’s Cross performances were the key showcase of this initiative.
The performances took place over the weekend, where over 50 boys from across the UK were chosen to perform.
As well as performing a variety of dance genres, the JTPA boys met with Birmingham Royal Ballet principle and Project B ambassador, Iain Mackay, and Royal Academy vice president, Wayne Sleep OBE.
The JTPA boys performed a group dance with other male dancers, as well as performing two group dances, solos and duets.
Jason Thomas said: “We teach 40 male dancers all forms of dance every week. I feel very honoured to have this many male dancers at my school. Our youngest is only two years old and we also have men in their 40s that enjoy to dance. The boys who performed in London have put dance in Cornwall on the map.”
