BUDE Library is due to host a performance by Cornish inclusive dance theatre company Shallal at 2pm on May 11, as they conclude their three-year ‘Cornish Doorways’ project with a libraries mini-tour.

The adapted, traveling version of their show will be a great opportunity to see the very best of Shallal’s recent work, and admission is free.

‘Cornish Doorways’ is a major arts and heritage project celebrating inclusivity and enabling Shallal’s company members to build new skills and perform at venues across Cornwall.

The performance will combine original choreography and music created by Shallal members and will include creative writing and stunning costumes.

Part of the ‘Cornish Doorways’ project celebrates the legacy of Cornish philanthropist John Passmore Edwards, who gave the county so many libraries and public buildings and believed in opportunities for all.

Shallal’s multi-talented members have been researching and celebrating Passmore Edwards through dance, theatre, poetry, music, film and visual art.

The project ends on a high note with shows at St Agnes, Bude and St Austell Libraries and a special performance at Blackwater Village Hall where Passmore Edwards was born.

“It feels very special to be taking the show to these libraries”, said Shallal creative director Jo Willis. “We are so grateful to Cornwall Library Service for hosting Shallal, and for all the library staff who have made us feel so welcome.”
