THIS was a well contested game with the high flying Bideford Blues and the mid-table Holsworthy.
Bideford started much better and had Holsworthy on the back foot for the first 20 minutes, passing the ball well and creating half chances, Dan Bott in the Holsworthy goal being kept busy. Bideford pressure finally paid off when a good through ball found their big centre forward who held off challenges to score from inside the area.
Holsworthy finally got a wake up call and started to get involved in the game and Lee Horwood had a couple of half chances but shot wide.
In the second half Holsworthy were fired up and gave it a real go and their hard work paid off Elliot Gerrard using his strength to get past two defenders and hit a great shot into the net. 1-1.
The game was becoming stretched, Mark Tucker and Matt Barkwill were doing a great job keeping the Bideford strikers out, but with 15 minutes left the Bideford winger made a great run down the line twisting and turning and got his shot away to beat the 'keeper at the near post 2-1.
Holsworthy had to push forward as time was running out, Dominic Abbott had two shots on goal which went just wide, Lee Horwood went close again, finally some good work from Toby Durling gave the ball to Dominic Abbott whose shot come cross found Elliot Jack at the far post and his well directed header found the net. 2-2.
Holsworthy nearly won it at the end of the normal time but their effort was cleared off the line. Extra time came and went with a few half chances and long shots, but both teams had given everything and they could not break the deadlock.
Penalties - which are a lottery - but Holsworthy's penalty takers held their nerve. Elliot Jack, Lee Horwood, Aiden Gerry and Matt Barkwill all scoring, Dan Bott in the Holsworthy saved brilliantly twice to give Holsworthy the win 4-2 and the Trophy.
Holsworth: Dan Bott, Aiden Gerry, Mark Tucker, Matt Barkwill, Ben Coaster, Dominic Abbott, Conna Cisneros, Toby Durling, Elliot Jack, Lee Horwood, Elliot Gerrard, Jackson Birch, Elliot Mitchell and Ben Westlake.
