TONY Wade of Holsworthy is a keen cyclist and following a chance meeting last summer with Sustrans North Devon group co-ordinator, Chris Vincen he has become a volunteer, writes Christine Williams.

Sustrans, which stands for Sustainable Transport, is a charity which aims to encourage people to walk and cycle more, thus reducing motor traffic and tackling its adverse effects.

They undertake work on practical projects such as cycle ways and footpaths, and are the driving force behind developing the National Cycle Network.

As a volunteer and a strong believer in sustainability, Tony’s job is to raise awareness of the cycle path and to maintain the part of the National Cycle Network Route 3 that runs from Coles Mill to Borough Cross.

Now he is seeking a group of like-minded people to assist him occasionally in maintaining signage and keeping pathways clear of vegetation.

In particular he needs help to tend the surface of the path over Derriton Viaduct and beyond towards Lambs Lane and to cut off branches towards Pyworthy.

He also hopes that together they might plan future cycling events. Tony can be contacted on [email protected]
