CYCLISTS from Cornwall have travelled to Paris to deliver a climate change report to the UN climate conference.

The four cyclists, who took part in the 350-mile journey, were Roger Creagh-Osborne, 63, from Launceston, Euan McPhee, 68, from Falmouth, Ricky Knight, 66, from Barnstaple in Devon and Ewan Jones, 45, from Bruton in Somerset. Starting out from Truro Cathedral on November 17, the cyclists endured appalling weather in their quest to deliver Luci Isaacson’s report on the impact of the 2009 ‘Footsteps to Copenhagen’ carbon pledges campaign to the climate conference delegates.

Luci Issacson, director of local organisation Climate Vision and author of the Climate Change Report, said: “For once I struggle to find the words! It’s been a fantastic eight months working on the Carbon Logic Project and what the cyclists have achieved is astonishing — to cycle 350 miles, taking our message from Cornwall, that individual carbon pledges can make a difference, to the heart of the debate in Paris, to inspire so many great leaders who might also be looking for an answer has been unbelievable.”

Once in Paris, the four cyclists went about delivering the report to MEPs, government officials and environmental campaigners, telling their story and talking to other activists, about their hopes and fears for the conference outcome.

Mr Creagh-Osborne, summed up his experiences of the cycle trip and hopes for the future: “Maybe some of what we did had a small impact on those at COP21, but more important is the continuing impact that will be created by our lives henceforth. Ripples that will continue to spread.

“We went with the flow. Connections and coincidences abounded. By taking the time to travel with intent we opened ourselves to getting energy from the richness of our world. It was a very powerful and strangely humbling experience.”
